Description of
the boating holiday

Sancerre winery trip to Pouilly-sur-Loire

Set sail from Plagny, and cruise to the heart of the most prestigious vineyards of the Loire in Sancerre, Pouilly-sur-Loire and Pouilly-Fumé. Along Canal latéral à la Loire, the slopes of these famous appellations are just waiting for you to come and meet the winemakers and discover new châteaux.

Departure base

Our boat rental base located in Plagny in the Nivernais is at the confluence of two waterways - the Canal latéral à la Loire and the Canal du Nivernais, one of the most famous destinations for canal boating holidays

Places to see and things to do

Plagny: Near (6km) to city of Nevers – capital of earthenware, Former F1 race circuit and ‘Musée Ligier F1’ at Magny Cours with a collection of F1 cars (10km)

Pont-canal du Guétin:
Sail across the 18-arch Guetin canal bridge, the “Bec d'Allier” protected natural area with hiking trails and bird observatory.

Apremont:
Medieval village, Château d’Apremont, floral park.

Marseille-lès-Aubigny:
Old maritime town, the natural meeting point of the Canal latéral à la Loire and the Canal du Berry

La Charité-sur-Loire:
Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle, 16th century stone bridge, Eglise Notre Dame (8th century roman architecture), historic ramparts and fortifications.

Pouilly-sur-Loire:
Notable for the production of the white wine known as Pouilly-Fumé, wine-tasting opportunities, Museum of “Pavillon du milieu de Loire”

Sancerre:
‘Maison des Sancerre’ wine museum, ‘La tour des fiefs’ 14th century château remains, splendid view of the Loire valley, 16th century belfry, many shops selling art and crafts.

When you have explored Sancerre, it’s time to turn back and perhaps revisit some of your favourite places on the journey back to Plagny where you will return your canal boat at the Nicols base.

Sailing, gastronomy and oenology
We loved this cruise which combined perfectly the pleasure of boating on the Canal latéral à la Loire, gastronomy and oenology. Over the course of our relaxing, we were able to visit vineyards and enjoy tastings. This boating holiday is an excellent alternative to the classic "route des vins" travelling by land and we thoroughly recommend it!
