Over this cruise on the Canal du Nivernais, visit Nevers, City of Art and History, discover ancient dungeons and hilltop castles and enjoy walks in the green landscapes and history of the Nièvre.
Our boat rental base located in Plagny in the Nivernais is at the confluence of two waterways - the Canal latéral à la Loire and the Canal du Nivernais, one of the most famous destinations for canal boating holidays.
Plagny: Near (6km) to city of Nevers – capital of earthenware, Former F1 race circuit and ‘Musée Ligier F1’ at Magny Cours with a collection of F1 cars (10km)
Chevenon: 12th century medieval castle, Zebulle Park with fishing area, swimming, picnic areas and children’s games
Decize: Relics of the ‘Château des Comtes de Nevers’ and fortifications of the 12th and 16th century, St Aré church and its Merovingian crypt, ramparts, ‘La promenade des halles’ with imposing plane trees sating back to 1771
Verneuil: 12th century roman church, 15th century château
Cercy-la-Tour: Panoramic views of the village and valley, 12th century Romanesque church

What a wonderful way to discover a region – sailing on your rental boat! We loved being able to enjoy a romantic dinner on the deck in the tranquillity of the Nivernais canal and having the freedom to stop whenever we wanted to take our bikes ashore and explore the surroundings.
