Why not enjoy a weekend break exploring the Canal de Bourgogne on board a self-drive canal boat? No previous boating knowledge is needed. Experience passing through locks and the famous canal bridge at Saint-Florentin, which is also a charming fortified city waiting to be explored.
The Nicols base at Brienon, located at the northern-most end of the Canal de Bourgogne, is the perfect starting point for a number of different boating holiday itineraries as it is the meeting point of the waterways of the Canal de Bourgogne, River Yonne and Canal du Nivernais.
Brienon: 13th and 16th century church, Oval shaped historic bath, the Perched Theatre in the old town hall - a laureate of the Regional Heritage Award.
Saint-Florentin: Canal surrounded by two rivers (Armance and Armancon), Church with beautiful stained glass windows and a terrace which offers panoramic views across the old town and the valley.
After cruising as far as Saint-Florentin it is time to think about the return leg of your journey. Look out again for the favourite places you found so far as you cruise back to the starting base at Brienon.
No problem for us beginners!
This holiday was the first time we’d ever been on a boating holiday but we needn’t have worried. The boat was easy to use and there’s really nothing better than enjoying a beautiful evening sat up on the top deck enjoying the views. We’d definitely consider a boating holiday again.
