Best bits:

  • Waterways use solely for canal and river boat hire craft
  • A crossroads of rivers providing many different boating holiday itineraries
  • The Erdre, an untamed river boasting many castles along its banks
  • Close proximity to Nantes (for easy access via the airport, TGV station) make it easy to get to the Nicols bases

Mentioned on the blog...

As novice sailors, we were a bit worried about the navigation induction, but Michèle and Alain welcomed us aboard with great kindness and immediately made us feel confident... See the blog

Discovering the waterways of Brittany is an amazing experience. Running inland from the sea is a vast network of rivers and canals offering a wide range of routes for your next boating holiday.

Boat rental on the Erdre

Our Sucé sur Erdre base is the ideal starting point to get to Nantes following a route dotted with amazing castles built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The town of Nantes has plenty to offer art and history fans. Brittany Dukes castle, Gothic cathedrals (15th-19th centuries), modern art museum…
Nature lovers will enjoy the peace and quiet on a relaxing trip, travel up the Erdre to the "Mazerolles Plain" - a haven for rare and protected birds and plants…

Boating holiday on the Canal from Nantes to Brest

Just a few miles further down and you meet the Canal de Nantes à Brest. As you cruise along you will cross Blain and Redon - a town founded in 832 that’s host to numerous Historical Monuments.

At Redon, your boating holiday continues along the River Vilaine: heading south, enjoy an enchanting trip to the medieval village of La Roche Bernard and the Arzal dam (the furthest point for boats) or heading north, towards Rennes and as far as Dinan...

If you continue along the canal from Nantes to Brest, we recommend a trip along a little river called the Aff as far as La Gacilly, a flowering village full of craftsmen.

Thanks to its colourful landscapes and its traditions Brittany is a great place for a boating holiday from spring through to autumn.
